How does a Sump Pump work?
Pits beneath the structure collect water. If the water level reaches a certain point the sump pump automatically turns on and pumps the water out of the pit and away from the home’s foundation. How often your sump pump runs depends on the amount of moisture you have.
If you have a sump pump, it is pretty easy to identify. It will be sitting in a small pit in the basement and may or may not have a cover on it. If it does have a cover, it will be easy to move around and will usually only have one pipe coming up through the lid.
